Remember when Trump’s billionaire friend Tom Barrack got up on the stage at the Republican convention and rhapsodized over what a kind & generous person Trump is?
Here’s the video for anyone who’s forgotten:
x YouTube VideoWhat I'm going to do is something different, and you're gonna hate me for it, because you're not going to hear one negative thing out of my mouth. I have nothing negative to say about Hillary, I have only amazing things to tell you about Donald. Because this man is good enough, he's tough enough, he's smart enough, and he's well-versed enough to do it on his own merits. We don't need to go anyplace else.
Not only was he one of the most enthusiastic speakers at Trump’s convention, but Barrack is one of the most important people in Trump’s life.
Few people are closer to Trump than Barrack, his friend for three decades. Barrack helped rescue Trump’s real estate empire years ago. He was the top fundraiser for Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. He turned down a Cabinet offer, preferring to be an outside adviser, although his name is still mentioned as a potential White House chief of staff should Trump decide to choose a new one.
<snip>
Trump’s relationship with Barrack is one of the most important, if little understood, of the president’s life, offering a case study of what it takes to remain close to him in a time of such turmoil.
The men have struck a mutually beneficial deal. Trump solicits Barrack’s advice regularly, asking how his actions are playing with the public. Barrack listens deferentially, advises Trump to change course without fear of retribution, and retains a bond that has outlasted Trump’s many personal and financial crises.
Barrack said he has often thought about how he has remained a close friend for 30 years with a man whose “reputation is selfish and egotistical. Here’s what I think the answer is: I’ve never needed anything from him. . . . I was always subservient to him.”
Turns out, it looks like Barrack’s company is about to invest in the Weinstein Company, to bail them out from the problems stemming from Harvey Weinstein’s outing as a longtime serial sexual predator.
I trust all those Trumpistas who have been demanding that the Clinton Foundation return ~$250K in donations received from Weinstein will now STFU? (J/k — Of course they won’t. )
