Because We Aren't a Single-Issue Country, I Support Bernie

We have so many urgent issues facing us in this country:

The global disaster of climate change and the imperative of developing clean energy Racial injustice and structural racism Whether the guiding principle of our foreign policy will be Cowboy Exceptionalism or Coalition Building Trade policy, including how much governmental power we cede to private industry , as well as the very closely related issue of wage stagnation/suppression in this country Health care access and affordability Immigration policy The safety of the food, water, drugs, and consumer products we bring into our homes Whether publicly-funded education in this country will be privatized, maintained at status quo, or expanded to include higher education How to stop the “exceptional” American scourge of thousands being slaughtered by gun violence How to address the third-world status of our national infrastructure Whether our tax policy and financial regulatory scheme will continue to concentrate wealth into the hands of an increasingly miniscule portion of the population

On the vast majority, if not all, of these issues, the interests and desires of the American people are actively opposed by powerful, entrenched interests.

There are so many more of us than there are of them, and yet on issue after issue, THEY ARE WINNING.

On issues where 90% of the American people agree, OUR OPPONENTS ARE WINNING.

On issues that we thought had been decided in our favor decades ago, THEY ARE WINNING.

On issues where something needs to change or we the people are going to continue dying by the thousands and getting sick by the millions, THEY KEEP WINNING. 

There is exactly ONE reason they keep winning on EVERY ISSUE, and that is the role of money in our democracy.

There is exactly ONE candidate who has made the role of money in our democracy the centerpiece of his campaign, in order to address not just one issue, but EVERY ISSUE of importance that faces our nation.

Until we can rid our body politic of the cancer that is killing it, no policy prescription on ANY ISSUE will matter.
